Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the difference between the NL-43 (Class 2) and NL-53 (Class 1)?
The NL-43 complies with IEC 61672-1 Class 2 and the NL-53 with Class 1. Class 1 has tighter frequency response tolerances across the full measurement range, making it the required standard for most regulatory and legally defensible noise measurements. Class 2 has slightly wider tolerances and is accepted for many general-purpose measurements, screening surveys, and applications where the tighter Class 1 accuracy is not mandated. Both models share the same form factor, display, connectivity options, and optional programs.
  • Can the NL-43 perform remote monitoring over the internet?
Yes, with the optional NX-43EX extended function program installed, the NL-43's LAN terminal enables remote access via web browser from any PC or smartphone. When connected to a mobile router, the meter can be monitored and operated from any WAN location, making it suitable for unattended environmental noise monitoring at remote sites.
  • What optional programs are available for the NL-43?
The NL-43 supports four optional programs, all requiring the NX-43EX extended function program as a prerequisite: NX-43WR (waveform recording at 12/24/48 kHz, uncompressed WAVE format), NX-43RT (octave and 1/3 octave real-time analysis per IEC 61260-1, with NC/NR/CZ curve display), and NX-43FT (FFT analysis with 2.5 Hz resolution and 20 kHz range). These programs are supplied on SD cards and can be installed as needed.

Application Guide
